When I first moved to NYC over 20 years ago I cold called Tom ‘Bones’ Malone. I was a complete novice in the ways of life in the big city, and he very graciously took my call. The thing that I remember most was something that he said about practicing. The gist of what he said was ‘Just keep practicing. Practice builds up good karma, which will return to you exponentially.’ I’m quite certain that I’m botching his quote, and I’m pretty sure that I’ve added in the ‘exponential’ part because it sounds good and fits with other things that I believe. Accurately quoted or not, I think that it’s a wonderful sentiment and is something that can help keep you motivated when you’re tempted to let things slide because no one is calling at the moment.
Having said that, I’ve decided to keep a gallery here of my weekly practice. This is mostly just for me. To remind myself that I have put in the work and that I’ve sent out this positive practice energy into the world. To remind me that even though I might be going through a stretch where I’m not performing as much as I’d like my ‘Practice Karma’ is out there, waiting to return to me when I least expect it.
